Specify an Engineered Diffuser

Even though we are continually expanding our diffuser portfolio, there are always applications that require some design we do not currently offer.

In this page you can put together specifications for a custom Engineered Diffuser™ by providing us with your requirements.

Please fill out as much as possible then click submit to review your specifications before sending them to us. Once we receive them we will have one of our engineers examine your requirements and get back to you within 24 hours.

Fields marked with * are required fields. Please fill them!

1. Source Type:
Please let us know of the source coherence properties, if known

2. Operating wavelength or spectrum (nm):

3. Input beam collimation:
Efficient illumination of a specific target requires well-collimated sources.
See Note on target efficiency for some efficiency estimates for collimated illumination.

4. Purpose/application of diffuser:
Here are some typical options:
  1. Homogenized of a non-uniform light source, sub as LED
  2. Uniform illumination, uniformity and efficiency critical
  3. Uniform illumination, efficiency critical, uniformity secondary
  4. Uniform illumination, uniformity critical, efficiency secondary
  5. Uniform illumination, wide angle
  6. Controlled intensity profile
  7. Your particular application

5. Diffuser angles (deg):
We generally specify the angles as full width at the 90% intensity level.
Please make clear whether your specification is half-width our full-width.

6. Pattern shape:
Such as circular, square, or other desired distribution.

7. Intensity profile:
Such as flattop, Gaussian, or other required profile.

8. Input beam size illuminating diffuser:

9. Diffuser feature size:
For applications where a certain target domain needs to be illuminated the efficiency at the target depends on the size of the features used to make the diffuser.
See Note on target efficiency for some efficiency estimates as a function of diffuser feature size for collimated illumination.

10. Substrate size:
Currently RPC Photonics can manufacture components up to 9x9 inches in most materials and ~5x5 inches injection-molded.

11. Material:
RPC Photonics can manufacture in a variety of materials such as:
  1. Polymer replicated on a glass or plastic substrate
  2. Fused silica
  3. Silicon
  4. Infrared materials such as Germanium, ZnS, ZnSe
  5. Calcium fluoride
  6. Injection-molded polymers

12. How many parts do you need?

13. Do you require AR-coating? What are the specifications?
RPC Photonics can manufacture in a variety of materials such as:
  1. Polymer replicated on a glass or plastic substrate
  2. Fused silica
  3. Silicon
  4. Infrared materials such as Germanium, ZnS, ZnSe
  5. Calcium fluoride
  6. Injection-molded polymers
